So, I've got a Win 7 PC that no longer shuts down on its own. I always have to turn it off manually. Is there a way that this can be fixed?
i'd like to know this too.
i've had this a few times myself
I had this a little while ago. Granted, it was on an XP machine, but one of my processes had become corrupt which caused the shutdown process to fail, which was ironic, since the error message I got was that the dwin.exe initialization failed because the Windows Station is shutting down. don't quote me on that exact spelling on that process, but that's what was causing the problem. apparently, if you have your windows disk, you can repair that. There are also a couple other programs I found via google search that claimed to repair it, but they never worked for me. that may not even be the problem in your case, but if it is, there you go. Sorry I can't offer more insight.
Off the top of my head the fix would be to repair Windows if it happens every time. If just now and than programs get stuck and don't close, so you'd have to figure out the program that isn't working correctly. I saw another fix as well. I'll post it when I find it for you.
Okay this link talks about the program issue. To fix it you'll need a sighted person to look at your screen when the computers shuting down and tell you the programs that are not closing. Update them, or reinstall fresh copies.
This link also talks about other issues and gives 3 steps, but your computer is newer, so I suspect it is only programs causing your issue.
